Product Details

Gardenia jasminoides Ellis genipin is an aglycone derived from an iridoid glycoside called Geniposide present in the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis.Genipin is an excellent natural cross-linker for protein, collagen, gelatin, and chitosan cross-linking. It has much less toxic than glutaraldehyde and many other commonly used synthetic cross-linking reagents. It has been used as Chinese traditional medicine to relieve the symptoms of type 2 diabetes. It is also used for pharmaceutical purposes, such as choleretic action for liver diseases control.

Plant source:
The dried and mature fruit of the Rubiaceae plant Gardenia GardeniajasminoidesEllis is the product of the hydrolysis of the geniposide in the gardenia by β-glucosidase.

Function and application of Genipin
Furthermore, genipin can be used as a cross-linking agent for immobilized enzymes, as a regulating agent for drug delivery, as the raw material for gardenia blue pigment preparation, and as the intermediate for alkaloid syntheses.

Besides the medicinal usage, Genipin has also been a wide range of applications in other areas, such as
react with an amino acid to be Gardenia Blue which can be widely used in the food, printing, and dyeing industry;
used as a biological fingerprint capture reagents;
or natural cross-linking agent for enzyme immobilization and preparation of gel capsules as well as for medicinal uses.

Applied in the health product industry, geniposide is mainly used as a product of dispelling heat, cooling blood, and diuretic; -Applied in the pharmaceutical field,

Genipin takes the gardenia fruit of Rubiaceae as its raw material and is the product of geniposide hydrolyzed by β-glucosidase in the gardenia. It has an anticholinergic inhibitory effect on gastric function, and it is the substance with the strongest mutagenic activity of mutagens among iridoid glycosides discovered so far. Soluble in ethanol, acetone, chloroform, ether, etc.; slightly soluble in water.

Applications:

1. In terms of medicinal use, food grade genipin can be used to treat liver diseases, lower blood pressure, laxatives, and relieve the symptoms of type II diabetes;

2. Natural biological cross-linking agent: it can be cross-linked with protein, collagen, gelatin, and chitosan to make biological materials, such as artificial bones, artificial blood vessels, medical adhesives, wound dressing materials and biological valves, etc., and its toxicity is far low For glutaraldehyde and other commonly used chemical crosslinking agents.

3. It can prepare high-end gardenia blue and gardenia red pigment products. They are a kind of safe, non-toxic, and non-side-effect natural pigments, which are widely used in the coloring of food, medicine, and cosmetics.

4. It is an excellent fingerprint collection reagent, and a good helper for the police to solve crimes.

5.Genipin tattoo: In cosmetics, it can be used to produce tattoo cream with a good dyeing effect.
